The aim of the site is to produce an online gallery/directory of photos of invertebrates from the UK taken through microscopes. The reason for this is that whilst there are numerous websites and galleries dedicated to species photos and identification in the wild, there is much less information available regarding the species as seen under magnification. As these specimens are usually preserved, they may often differ in colour and shape when compared to a specimen photographed in the wild.

As a result it is hoped that by providing access to photos of invertebrates taken through microscopes, this website may aid in identification of species commonly encountered in ecological studies.
